LEADING CHANGE

ETM is passionate about reducing oil consumption and CO2 emissions and making the world a cooler place. We are actively pursuing changes in energy usage and energy diversity. As a pledging partner in Sustainable Silicon Valley, ETM is committed to a regional goal of reducing CO2 emissions in the Silicon Valley to 20% below their 1990 levels by the year 2010.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

As part of this commitment, we've invested in a lighting retrofit, which included changing all light fixtures from magnetic to electronic ballast and installing occupancy light sensors to control lighting. We've also replaced our existing roof with a "cool" roof. The white urethane foam used in this process will reduce the surface temperature of the roof by 50 percent or more.

ETM knows that CO2 emissions happen as an effect of us humans living our daily lives. So to address that, ETM has two ongoing employee incentive programs: Drive for Change and Plant 1000 Bulbs . These programs help reduce the greenhouse gases that our employees our causing. We've already reduced our collective CO2 emissions by more than 40 tons a year because of our enthusiastic employee participation.

Plant 1000 Bulbs

For every incandescent bulb that ETMers turn in they will receive a new compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) replacement. CFLs use about 20% of the power required of incandescent bulbs and therefore reduce by 80% the environmental impact of lighting up a room.

Where can I learn more about America 's dependence on foreign oil and the effects of CO2 emissions?

ETMers receive a $5000 bonus for purchasing a new vehicle that achieves a combined EPA mileage rating at or above 45mpg. Studies have shown that switching from a car that gets 20 mpg to one that gets 45 mpg can reduce CO2 emissions by as much as three tons per person per year.
