High Voltage Protection
ETM's many years of experience in the high power arena have produced many different high voltage protection devices. In the development of high voltage power supplies and amplifiers, ETM has paid special attention to personnel safety and equipment protection that is so critical when working with high voltages. Each ETM product contains state-of-the-art safety features such as interlocked access panels, protective terminal covers, and warning labels.

In addition to interlocks, ETM's high power systems typically use electro-mechanical shorting switches that automatically discharge storage capacitance when the interlock has been broken or the system has been de-energized within milliseconds. ETM has developed a custom Electronic Crowbar System that uses either an Ignitron or Triggered Spark Gap to quickly discharge the high voltage thus protecting personnel and the microwave tube.

ETM can also take advantage of a number of different dielectric insulation techniques depending on the requirement. High voltage products that include an ETM control head or digital display utilize interconnecting glass fiber optics to isolate the high voltage and prevent damage against the interface, control and display functions of the product.

For lower voltage requirements beginning at 1kV we commonly use a silicon-based solid potting material to isolate the high voltage against arcing and improve heat transfer between power supply modules.
